The great thing is that regardless of the settings or occasions, what I love most about my job never changes: when my subjects see their images, they feel FAMOUS, BIGGER than LIFE… and doesn’t everyone deserve to feel that once in a while?
Because so much of my work is specializing in seniors, I often talk about the stresses that age group faces, and how as a Senior Photographer, I can provide time away from it all, even if for just a few hours. But there is another life stage that is dear to my heart, with its own uncertainty, its own set of stress, and with the same opportunity for me to serve by giving a few hours of escape from reality.
Young adulthood.
Ahhhh, I remember those years, do you? School was finished, and the job search started. Real life began with real bills, and for me anyway, real fear of the unknown… what NOW? Maybe I was alone in feeling that way, but I still wasn’t quite comfortable in my own skin then. I was filled with insecurity about who I was and what I looked like, and who I was to become.
Now that I am older, I want THIS young woman in front of my lens, so that I can pamper her and make her feel beautiful, important, like a million bucks. I want her to see herself as I see her. I want to help her feel confident, and secure.
Why do we wait for a special occasion to be photographed, when the fact that WE ARE SPECIAL should be enough?
Sacha recently stepped in front of my camera. She is a photo enthusiast, and an aspiring model and professional photographer.
She is gorgeous, she is funny, she is thoughtful, she is up front, and fiery, and sweet.
And at first, she couldn’t stop telling me all about her perceived flaws, all of the ways that she didn’t measure up.
During our time together, I taught her what I know about what looks good from the perspective of my camera. I shared with her tricks of the trade. I laughed with her, talked with her, tried to make her feel at ease. And I know she had a good time. We both did.
But then, I showed her our finished product…
And she SAW.
“YESSSSSSS. OMG. THEY LOOK SO AMAZING!!!! I LOVE THEM!” (insert a row of heart-eye emojis and smiley faces here).
Yes, Sacha. I agree. They DO look amazing… because YOU are amazing. I hope these photographs help you always to remember that.
If you know of a special someone who needs to be reminded how great they are, I would LOVE for you to send them my way for a reminder. It is a gift people rarely think of giving. A lot of us will give prints as presents, but we rarely consider giving a session for the experience. Maybe that should change! Get my Client Guide sent to your inbox to learn more!
