Our Seniors entered 2020 full of hope and anticipation, ready to celebrate a semester’s worth of lasts with the people they grew up with… but then there was Covid-19.

We all know the story. As the world came to a halt, so did the traditional celebrations. These Seniors played their last ball games, marched into school assemblies, sat in their classrooms, and walked the halls of their schools one last time… without even knowing it.

Life works like that sometimes, doesn’t it? We’ve all heard it said: “One day you played backyard baseball with your friends for the last time and no one knew it,” or “One day you picked up your child for the last time, and never realize you’d never do it again.”

But the thing is, these Seniors were SUPPOSED to know. Their names were supposed to be called out in front of their schools and their friends and families in the stands.

It was their turn to be singled out, to be celebrated, to be acknowledged for the successful ending to the childhood portion of their lives.

They earned the right to walk the halls of their elementary and middle schools, to excited high fives and loud cheers from all the little ones. Little ones who would look up at them, knowing that one day it would be them being celebrated too.

It was their time to stand together as one, side by side victorious in their caps and gowns, before life took them each down their separate, individual paths.

Our 2020 Seniors will have a different story to tell. Their story is of a rare and historic time. Their Senior Story is a paradox, where the earth stood still while time still marched on.

My wish for them is they still feel celebrated and loved, but will come away having learned in a unique way, that they should always take the time to soak in every blessing, big and small. I hope from now on they will stop, look around, and KNOW they are in the good old days. Because even when those days are tough, there is always a blessing there, when we open our eyes to see it.
