My job as a portrait photographer, whether I shoot teens, sports, or families, is to give my clients such an amazing experience, and such gorgeous photographs, that they can’t help but to want to talk about our time together, and can’t wait to share their pictures with their family and friends.

I want my customers to LOVE their experience, LOVE the products I give them, LOVE the memories they make… and I want them to WANT to share that love.

And as a small business in a small town, I know that word of mouth is the lifeline of my success.  I never want my customers to feel like they are selling me to their friends and family, because I am NOT about a hard sale.  That is not my style.  But I DO want to reward the customers that are sharing my services, and showing my work to their circle.

My referral program is simple, it is a win/win for both my old and my new clients, and it works to widen my circle as well!  Let me use my session with Claire Kindley, Wake Forest High School Class of 2018, to tell you how it works.

Claire and her mom Kathy were strangers to me when they emailed me this summer to book her Senior Portraits.  But in our initial conversation, as I was explaining to her what they could expect from me, I asked them how they had come to find me.

“You shot my friend Lisa’s son, Josh,  for his senior pictures, and are doing his sister’s this year too,” Kathy said.  Then she went on to say that they looked up my work from there, and loved what they saw.

The moment that she mentioned that my past client recommended me, she immediately got 50% off her session fee.

Then, when she booked her session, I put a $50 Product Voucher in the mail to her friend, for them to use on a future order.

That’s it.  Simple, right?

Same Special Experience

So Kathy, Claire, her boyfriend Austin, and I met at a beautiful park in Wake Forest for her pictures.  Of course I grabbed Austin for a few shots of them together too (I posted one below) because oh my stars, they are the cutest couple ever.

I went back to their home for the big Reveal Night  and spent a wonderful evening looking over products, and talking about pictures, and just life in general.

Kathy texted me later and said that as I was leaving, Claire told her, “I miss her already!”

You know what?  I felt the same way!  We may have started the process as strangers, but I have made new friends.
