The great thing is that regardless of the settings or occasions, what I love most about my job never changes: when my subjects see their images, they feel FAMOUS, BIGGER than LIFE… and doesn’t everyone deserve to feel that once in a while?

I’ve said it before because I’ve been blessed… there are some clients who become more than clients.
They become part of your story.
As a portrait photographer, I often say I’m documenting moments — but sometimes we get to document an entire journey. My journey with Emily started long before either of us realized it.

Years ago, I was practicing photography at a local dance recital. I was learning, experimenting, studying light and capturing movement. In the middle of the performance, I spotted the most beautiful little three-year-old with huge eyes and porcelain doll features. I lifted my camera and captured a portrait of her.
At the time, I had no idea who she was.
I didn’t know that years later I would photograph Emily in cheerleading portraits, photograph her with her brother and sister, and eventually create one of my favorite Sweet 16 sessions ever.
And now… senior year.
That’s the magic of full-service portrait photography.

When families invest in me as their photographer, they’re looking for more than just digital files or a quick session.
They’re looking for an experience.
They want someone who sees their child the way they do. Someone who understands how quickly time moves and how important it is to slow down long enough to preserve it.
That’s why I pour so much into every portrait session.
From styling guidance to pampering during the shoot, from helping design heirloom albums and wall art to creating portraits that feel timeless — every step matters.
Because portraits are not just about looking beautiful.
They’re about remembering.

Emily’s Sweet 16 session was one of those moments where everything came together perfectly.
Confidence.
Beauty.
Joy.
Connection.
Somewhere between the hair, the outfits, the good times, and the quiet moments with her family, the little girl from the dance recital disappeared and this stunning young woman stepped fully into herself.
And her parents saw it too.
That’s what I love most about portrait photography.

Yes, I want my clients to feel like stars in front of the camera. I want them to feel confident, radiant, celebrated, and seen.
But years from now, the thing that will matter most isn’t just how beautiful the portraits were, even if they ARE stunning… and they WILL be.
It will be the memory of the experience itself.
The time spent together… planning, shopping, in the car, at the session.
The laughs… even at a shoot just this week Emily brought up something crazy that happened at her Sweet 16 Session.
The excitement… Sweet 16, Senior Year, it’s important to celebrate and document milestones big and small.
The feeling….
Because time is a thief.

We live in a world where thousands of images sit on phones and disappear into cloud storage, never to be seen again.
But printed portraits?
Albums?
Framed wall art?
Those become part of a family’s history.
The heirloom portraits we design together are meant to protect those memories. They become daily reminders of the people we love most and the seasons of life we never want to forget.
They decorate homes beautifully, yes — but more importantly, they tell a story.
This is the part of Emily’s story that I got to tell:

A little girl at a dance recital.
A cheerleader.
A sister.
A Sweet 16 princess.
A senior getting ready to step into the next chapter.
And for me, getting to document that journey has been one of the greatest honors of my career.

Senior year is such a fleeting season.
One minute they’re tiny little girls in dance costumes, and the next they’re preparing for graduation and dreaming about the future.
That’s why senior portraits matter so much.
Not because of trends.
Not because of social media.
Not even because of the perfect outfit.
They matter because these moments deserve to be remembered.
