The great thing is that regardless of the settings or occasions, what I love most about my job never changes: when my subjects see their images, they feel FAMOUS, BIGGER than LIFE… and doesn’t everyone deserve to feel that once in a while?
Every year I take a small group of Seniors to be the face of my business. They get a deluxe experience for their senior portraits, yes. But then we keep on celebrating and documenting their last year of high school with four themed group photo shoots.
It’s always SO much fun!
Team 2025 went with my idea of a back to school theme in September. Their second shoot was the traditional Project Beauty… but the third theme was all their vision:
They saw themselves in a lovely field, dressed in beautiful long white dresses… and oh my goodness, they really were breathtaking!
I was all in on the Field of Dreams, Boho Chic theme. I knew the perfect location, so I asked them to bring vibrant flowers, to add a splash of color. I knew they’d be perfect against their flowing dresses and braided loose curls.
Now, setting a date to accommodate busy senior schedules is NOT for the weak, but we found a time that would work. As the date grew closer, the forecast looked great. Perfect, right?
Nah, nothing is ever perfect. Traffic was a mess, then the field I had in mind was mowed down, and there were powerful wind gusts for the first half of our time together… but we kept trucking and the results?? MAGIC.
I LOVED this shoot because it was easy to see how these girls, some of whom have known each other for years but others who are new to the group, had really gelled.
Any awkwardness from the beginning of the year had completely faded—what I saw instead was a camaraderie that made every shot feel genuine and heartfelt.
Their laughter and friendship shone through, even if the wind messed up their hair between shots, or if I did ask them to walk barefoot on thorns we didn’t know were on the grass. (Sorry about that, ladies).
Watching them interact with each other and their moms behind the scenes, everyone truly enjoying the moment, reminded me of how special this time is in their lives.
I hope they came away creating sweet memories for themselves… I know they did that for me.
As the day wrapped up and the sun began to set, the light became magical… and while I photographed each girl under that elegant weeping willow, I felt the energy shift to something beautiful as well.
I’m not sure I have the words to describe the feeling… but my hope is these photos will caught it. My hope is they serve as timeless keepsakes from an unforgettable senior year filled with laughter, growth, and friendships.
I’m so grateful to have been part of this experience, sharing the time, and capturing these images for these remarkable girls. Here’s to the beauty of friendship, the joy of celebration, and all of the unique moments that define this special year.
Class of 2026… it’s almost your time. And I can’t wait to meet you!
