The great thing is that regardless of the settings or occasions, what I love most about my job never changes: when my subjects see their images, they feel FAMOUS, BIGGER than LIFE… and doesn’t everyone deserve to feel that once in a while?
I have only posted four blogs before this one, but we have long established that my blood runs Carolina Blue. The thing is, I married a rabid NC State fan, and I am beginning to think that the years of living with him have let some of his Wolfpack Red blood into my system, because recently I have discovered a deep purple love in my heart: This Tar Heel loves her some East Carolina Pirates!
My fabulous photographer friend, mentor, and fellow Carolina Alumni, Rob Taylor, lives in Greenville and does a lot of work for ECU Athletics. When he has a conflict in schedule, he calls on me to cover for him. Through him, I have had the pleasure of shooting ECU Volleyball, Softball, and most recently, Cross Country. Win or lose, East Carolina Athletics never fails to impress.
Without exception, every athlete, coach, administrator, and fan I have encountered has been friendly and helpful. They have established a D1 program with a small school feel. I am a new fan… and I hope I get the call before too long to shoot the Pirates again. The photo journalist in me may not be able to cheer them on too visibly at the events, but you can count on the fact that inside, every fiber of my being will be screaming “Arrrghhh” with them!
